Keep a record of a folder's contents by using Command Files with DDFileCatcher

Sometimes you might need to keep a record of the contents of a folder. You need a list of the files in a folder and maybe some properties of the file, such as the size, the owner etc. The folder contents could be updated, as files are modified, added or removed. To keep a record of changes to the folder, you could create a file containing the folder contents. You list the files contents automatically and save them in a different file each time the list is made. The new "Command File" feature of DDFileCatcher lets you keep a record of your folders. Command files are made using a step-by-step Wizard type interface. When run from a menu or a shortcut, they launch DDFileCatcher, which lists the files and saves the file list to file for you.

Reasons to keep a record of folder contents

A project manager might want to track the progress of drawing files produced by the CAD draftsmen. The arrival times of project documents could be tracked. Music file collectors often save an album with the album title as the folder name and the track titles as the track file names.

Choose on or more folders or individual files

Choose the folder or folders and any individual file you want to monitor. Subfolders can also be searched. Select any from over 340 file properties you want to check.

Choose a filepath for the files to hold the record of the folder contents

The files can be made unique, to prevent overwriting each time, by inserting a counter number or the date and time in each filepath. If the output format allows it, for example "plain text" or "CSV", one file can be used, and new file lists can be appended to it.
